Each mailbox is constructed by hand, one at a time, using only quality materials and are constructed out of 3/4 inch exterior plywood and heavy duty pine. Painted with exterior high gloss house paint and finished with six coats of polyurethane varnish to help extend the life of your mailbox and enhance the coloring. We suggest in 90 days, wipe off the mailbox with a damp towel, and apply another coat of polyurethane varnish, as well as repeating this every 6 – 12 months (This only ensures your purchase lasts for a very long time and holds its original coloring).
The Brown Pelican is a frequent visitor to the shores, beaches, ports and docks in the coastal regions of the United States. Our PELICAN MAILBOX will bring the nautical, seaside look that is so popular today to your home.
Our PELICAN MAILBOX is carved and sculpted by hand out of cedar to create the realistic lines and texture that brings it to life.
Construction starts with a standard U.S. Post Office approved mailbox, around which we construct a cage made out of exterior B.C. plywood. Then we cover the plywood with layers of Western Cedar. This gives the textured layered look of our PELICAN MAILBOX. The door and back are also covered in cedar for a finished look. A wooden base plate is added to the bottom for post mounting.
After construction, our Pelican is sent to the spray booth, to be covered inside and out with a protective layer of exterior paint. Then, he moves on to the art studio, where our artists add their own mix of realistic colors and details to bring him to life. We use only the finest exterior acrylic enamel in our painting. And as a final step, we add multiple coats of exterior polyurethane as a protective layer.
This method of layered, cedar construction and painting gives our PELICAN MAILBOX the strength and durability to withstand the elements for years to come.
Handcrafted and usually takes 6 to 8 for weeks for delivery.
Worth waiting for and truly looks like a Pelican waiting for the postman.
